The five candidates vying for a pair of seats on the Palm Desert City Council discussed whether the city should switch to five voting districts, as well as how they would chart the city's economic future, during a forum Thursday night.The candidates include a single incumbent, current Mayor Jan Harnik, along with four newcomers: Gregg Akkerman, Carlos Garcia, Gregory Meinhardt and Evan Trubee. Both open seats are in District 2, which includes about 80% of the city's population and has four council members.
