California Highway Patrol's helicopter assisted in the rescue of the injured hiker. PALM DESERT, CA — An injured hiker was rescued in Palm Desert Sunday. The hiker was reported injured around 11:57 a.m. Sunday on the Bump and Grind Trail about a half-mile up the trailhead, according to the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. Crews made their way up the trail to the hiker on foot while California Highway Patrol's H60 helicopter made its way for air support. Medics found the hiker about a half-mile to three-quarters of a mile up the trail, suffering a lower extremity injury, the fire department said.
