When Marjourie Lopez broke the Desert Empire League track & field record in the 3200 meters on April 25, it was 31 seconds faster than the rest of the field. Her time of 11:08.28 was the new standard for girls in the DEL, besting her old record of 11:22.09. Turns out her new league record wasn't even close to what Lopez can do. On May 6 in the CIF Southern Section prelims, the Shadow Hills High School senior ran the 3200 in 11:00.98 at Ventura High School. It was the best time of the day among the girls.
