Two people were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence in Palm Desert, authorities announced Saturday. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department conducted a DUI checkpoint at Fred Waring Drive and Portola Avenue from 6 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday. A total of 890 vehicles were screened, according to the sheriff's department. Deputies arrested Dennis Siggins, 26, of Wildomar for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs. Meliton Mejia, 34, of Palm Springs was also arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
